Welcome to my new blog! Winters are hard for me, especially living in Minnesota where it can get very dark and cold during the winter months. When it's gray and gloomy, I feel my Seasonal Affective Disorder fully. And when it's sunny outside, even if it's -20 degrees, I feel a little bit better. I wonder if you can relate?
I am a writer, teacher, and mother. I've suffered from SAD probably since I was a teenager but I didn't really figure it out until I was in my 30s. Since then, I have made it through many winters in Minnesota (sometimes barely) but I come out the other side strong and happy as spring and summer arrive.
But then it all begins again in the fall.
SAD is a big deal. It is a serious form of mental illness shared by many people but acknowledged by few. I'm here to acknowledge that people who have Seasonal Affective Disorder can suffer greatly during the winter months. And I'm also here to say that we can survive, and even thrive, living with SAD.
I'd love for you to join me on my journey. I'll share my ups and downs, what I struggle with, what I've learned, and hopefully make the SAD season easier for all of us.
